JBA Pulau Ketam
In 1992, under the Suburban Water Supply Project, the pipe installation on the seabed was installed at 400mm (HDPE) pipe from Pulau Indah to Pulau Ketam across Pulau Kelang. Since then, there has been five (5) cases of serious leakages in Selat Kelang. In the year 2008, the most critical leakage on the pipe occurred and due to that it has involved a pipe rehabilitation that caused RM 5 million. Since then, there were more leakages till 20th July where the residences of Pulau Ketam were experiencing a water crisis that lasted for thirty (30) days and the repair costs were an additional RM4.2 million.
In 2014, Jabatan Bekalan Air launched its longest pipe replacement in South East Asia, which lengths up to 5.6km, starting from Lebuhraya Pulau Indah up to Pulau Kelang. This installation includes a 3.6km and with a HDPE pipe at 450mm on land, and the remaining 2km with Steel Pipe of 406mm across the sea using Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) method in order to avoid disruption of the ecosystem within the sea while preserving the environment surrounding it.
This project was launched in 19th August 2014 where the opening ceremony was held with in the honorable presence of Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Maximus Johnity Ongkili. The Horizontal Directional Drilling Pipe Replacement project was then completed in 17th May 2015.
